While COVID-19 Found Its Footing in the U.S., McClintock Tilted at Windmills

Dr Fauci Facepalm

They’re supposed to keep us safe. Their job is to keep us safe. Tom McClintock’s job is to keep us safe. But like the rest of the GOP, Tom McClintock chooses to ignore the things that truly threaten us, and to rage at phantoms instead.

Three months ago the intelligence community started to sound the alarm about COVID-19. They started with the President and he ignored them. Instead, he lied to the public and told us not to worry. They reached out to our representatives and only one political party paid attention. Democrats spoke up, expressing their fear and alarm that the administration was not taking the threat of COVID-19 seriously enough. The GOP — Tom McClintock — took their cues from Trump. They ignored the crisis.

For the first two months of this year, as COVID-19 got a foothold in our country, Tom McClintock ignored it. He continued to scapegoat immigrants, falsely blaming them — as he always does — for the woes in the country. He engaged in the bootlicking that marks so many of Trump’s supporters. He used his platform to advance the GOP’s false narrative about Russia and its support for Trump. But not once during the first two months of the year did he warn the residents of California’s Fourth District about what we are facing. Not once did he take the risk of COVID-19 seriously. It was not until March 3 that he finally started to open his eyes to the threat. In the month since, South Placer County has had two COVID-19 deaths and Truckee has had one, and hospitals throughout the district have cut back on elective surgeries in preparation for a surge of coronavirus cases.

California’s 4th District deserves better. We deserve a representative who sees our challenges with clear eyes and takes meaningful action to fix them. We deserve a representative who truly cares about what happens in this District. We deserve a representative who will fight for us.

Join us, as we fight to send Tom McClintock back to his own District, and to finally stop him from selling us out, one vote at a time.

Because we know, as Margaret Mead said, that “a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
