Tom McClintock’s job is to fight for his constituents. His job is to pay attention to what they need, and make sure he’s using his powerful platform to work to address those needs. His job is to enact laws and advance policies that improve the lives of the people who live in his District. But once again, Tom McClintock is nowhere to be seen on the issues that really matter right now.
Too many people in our country desperately need an extension of the unemployment benefits set to expire in two weeks. As this article explains, “[t]he nation got another dose of bad economic news Thursday as the number of laid-off workers seeking jobless benefits rose last week for the first time since late March, intensifying concerns the resurgent coronavirus is stalling or even reversing the economic recovery.” The federal government’s short-term economic assistance is about to expire, even as the number of infections across the country skyrockets. The threat of foreclosure also is increasing for too many people in this country.
We desperately need leaders who will work with their colleagues to address these enormous challenges.
Tom McClintock, though, wants to talk about other things. He’s not using his platform or access to other leaders to try to convince Senate Republicans to get to work on the Bill passed by the House two months ago and sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk. He’s defending statues that glorify traitors to this country and our history of racism, but ignoring the real problems facing this country. He doesn’t want you to think about the death of 150,000 people (and counting) because the president refuses to take a deadly virus seriously. He doesn’t want you to think about the Senate Republicans’ failure to extend badly-needed unemployment benefits as they fight amongst themselves. And he’s supporting the president’s insistence that schools open fully in the fall, while the administration refuses to provide the support and funding those schools need to help them undertake that impossible task. He’s not trying to fix the biggest problems facing us today. Instead, he’s just trying to distract from the failures of the president he fully supports.
California’s 4th District deserves better. We deserve a representative who sees our challenges with clear eyes and takes meaningful action to fix them. We deserve a representative who truly cares about what happens in this District. We deserve a representative who will fight for us.
Join us, as we fight to send Tom McClintock back to his own District, and to finally stop him from selling us out, one vote at a time. To learn more about the alternative, visit https://brynneforcongress.com/.
Because we know, as Margaret Mead said, that “a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
