“[F]ederal regulations prevented them from touching or holding the child to soothe her,” they were told.
The two-year-old they could not soothe – one of many young children at a Texas facility – “was just screaming, and nobody could help her.” She and thousands of other children are being held captive by our government to use as leverage – a hostage, some would say – in the President’s crusade to build a wall that Mexico never, ever will pay for. Most of these children crossed America’s border seeking refuge from the violent, dangerous countries in which they were born. Some came alone, some with families, but now all are alone, with no idea when they will see their parents again. The “toxic stress” many are suffering may do permanent damage to their young brains. But the President has made clear that he will not relent – he will continue ripping apart families who come to the U.S. seeking asylum – unless Democrats agree to fully fund his wall and to enact the most extreme immigration policies any U.S. President has proposed for decades or more.
Tom McClintock supports the Trump Administration’s decision to use children as leverage to enact its extreme immigration agenda. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
