Over the past week, the Trump administration has doubled-down on its claim that it has no choice but to separate parents and children who come to this country seeking refuge, because “the Democrat’s law” requires it.
Determined journalists have been struggling to get a clear answer to the obvious question: What law? What law, enacted by Democrats, compels ICE agents to forcibly take the children of every family who crosses into this country without authorization – a misdemeanor for most of the parents – so they can send the parents to prison, and the children to some government facility? There’s been no answer, because there is no law. The Trump administration enacted a new, cruel policy to separate all children from their parents, in the hope of deterring refugees from seeking asylum in the U.S. And now they are using that new policy as leverage, to try to force Democrats to approve Trump’s immigration initiatives, like building “the wall.” They are using children as leverage. Trump and his administration know it’s cruel. They know it does immense harm to the families they are ripping apart. And so they are lying about who bears the blame. They are lying to us.
Tom McClintock supports the dehumanizing immigration policies of this Administration. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
