We Need Women in Government

Last week, while defending the fact that the GOP has not placed a single woman on the Judiciary Committee – one of the most important in the Senate – Chairman Grassley suggested that it was too much work, and the GOP’s female Senators didn’t want to make the effort.

He ignored the fact that the Democrats have women eager to do that hard work, and doing a very good job of it. Just as importantly, he ignored the positive role that women play in government. He ignored the fact that women get stuff done. This articles discusses a seven-year study of women in the Senate. It found that women work harder – introducing more bills than men – and that they work more effectively. They were more likely to work across the aisle, co-sponsor legislation, get more support for the legislation, and get the legislation passed. By working collaboratively, they were able to accomplish than their male counterparts. But collaboration requires compromise, and without that compromise, nothing gets done.

Tom McClintock has accomplished little for his District, because he refuses to compromise his extreme views. McClintock is selling us out, one vote at a time. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
