Trump’s Constant Scapegoating of Immigrants Is Based on Lies

The President of the United States is doubling down on his constant scapegoating of the undocumented immigrant population in the U.S., but he is lying to us.

Study after study shows that immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, commit far fewer crimes than U.S. citizens. They commit fewer violent crimes and they commit fewer non-violent crimes. As Houston’s Mayor explained to NPR last month, “There’s no wave of crime being committed by the immigrant community.” Instead, “a lot of the violent crime that we’re dealing with is being committed by people that are born and raised right here in the United States.” But like any good dictator-wanna-be, Trump isn’t going to let the facts get in the way. He is rallying his base by lying to them – and us – about undocumented immigrants, focusing on an exceedingly small group of dangerous men, in the hope of convincing more people that all immigrants are dangerous. They are not. The vast majority of immigrants are law-abiding, hard-working people who are simply trying to find a better life for themselves and their families.

Tom McClintock supports the President’s harsh treatment of – and lies about – immigrants. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
