Trump Administration Gives Corporate Wrongdoers Free Reign

Donald Trump

Every industry has some wrongdoers, and one of our federal government’s most important jobs is enforcing laws against businesses that defraud consumers, or simply try to cut corners and shift their expense or waste onto the taxpayer.

Under the Trump administration, many agencies in our government are abandoning this critical role. We probably shouldn’t be surprised that enforcement actions declined under this President. Trump has been complaining about and pushing back against regulations for most of his career as a developer. When he appointed people who reject the missions of the agencies they lead, it was clear that those agencies would be less effective. But as this Public Citizen report demonstrates, it’s even worse than we could have expected. Penalties imposed by many of Trump’s agencies plummeted in 2017, with the DOJ and the EPA topping the list at 90% and 94% drops respectively. In too many industries, business now has a free reign, and we all will pay the price.

Tom McClintock supports essentially unrestrained capitalism, regardless of the cost to the rest of us. McClintock is selling us out, one vote at a time. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
