Tom’s Catering to His Donors, Again

Tom McClintock decided to use the rolling blackouts that again deprived many of his constituents of power as an opportunity to cater to the wishes of his regular campaign contributors like PG&E. Instead of acknowledging the true cause of the problems, he trotted out his regular scapegoat, “green energy” mandates.

Tom likes to pretend that policies advanced in California don’t work. Arguing that green energy is more expensive and less reliable than natural gas and other options, he claimed that green energy initiatives led to the blackouts. What he won’t admit is that we are in this position because our regulators are not doing their jobs. As this Los Angeles Times article explains, the fault rests with the Public Utilities Commission, which has not “ordered utility companies to line up sufficient power supplies.” Regulation works if regulators do. But Tom doesn’t like regulations and you won’t see him putting the blame where it belongs.

Tom’s not likely to admit it – perhaps because he gets a lot of campaign money from utilities and the oil and gas industry – but we can have inexpensive, efficient, clean energy. As this article explains, seven countries already have achieved close to 100% renewable energy – “Iceland (100 percent), Paraguay (100), Costa Rica (99), Norway (98.5), Austria (80), Brazil (75), and Denmark (69.4).” They’ve done it in densely populated areas in Germany, New Zealand and Denmark. Canada’s Quebec and British Columbia also are close to that goal. We can achieve this critical benchmark and eliminate the damage done by carbon-based energy and the compromises that come with a business model too reliant on other countries or damage to our own. But we’ll only do it if we set that goal and then put in the work needed to achieve it. Tom McClintock isn’t concerned about the world he’s leaving his children and grandchildren, so he won’t even acknowledge the need.

California’s 4th District deserves better. We deserve a representative who sees our challenges with clear eyes and takes meaningful action to fix them. We deserve a representative who truly cares about what happens in this District. We deserve a representative who will fight for us.

Join us, as we fight to send Tom McClintock back to his own District, and to finally stop him from selling us out, one vote at a time. To learn more about the alternative, visit
