We’ve known for years that Tom McClintock is selling out the District that he represents, consistently putting the interests of his corporate donors ahead of his constituents’ interests. But now his subservience to the oil and gas industry is threatening real harm to the residents of Puerto Rico, who already have suffered far too much.
The Department of Energy is trying to convince Congress that the U.S. Government should allocate funds for Puerto Rico to implement more renewable energy, but Tom McClintock is having none of it. Bowing to the interests of his corporate donors from the oil and gas industry – which have donated more than $208,000 to him — McClintock insisted in a hearing this week that the Agency’s motivations were political. Although the Assistant Energy Secretary tried repeatedly to explain that renewable energy would be more cost-efficient given Puerto Rico’s unique needs, McClintock refused to consider the possibility, demanding to know why the agency was ignoring economics and advocating for “politically favored sources of energy[.]” He wouldn’t even listen to the expert that was trying to explain that renewable energy would be a better solution for Puerto Rico, for many reasons.
Tom McClintock has shown time and again that he will always put the interests of his wealthy donors ahead of the rest of us. McClintock is selling us out, one vote at a time. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
