The GOP’s War on Women

Women's rights

With the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, the country is at risk of returning to days we thought we had put behind us. The days when women died because they chose to end an unwanted pregnancy.

The GOP claims to be the “pro-life” party, but this is not about life. It’s about control. In this country, we have always protected body autonomy. A person cannot be compelled to give blood – despite the minimal invasion to them – no matter how important their donation might be, or how many lives they might save. Each of us has an extra kidney we could give to save a life, or part of a liver, but the thought of being compelled by the state to make that kind of sacrifice is anathema. Yet, the GOP is fighting to give states the right to force women to sacrifice their bodies – in a nation with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world – while a cluster of cells with the potential of becoming a fetus grows inside of them. They are fighting to force women back into alleys and dirty clinics to obtain the abortion that is today their constitutional right. They are fighting to defund and shutter Planned Parenthood and other women’s health services across the country, while ignoring the fact that abortion rates decline where women have access to the kind of inexpensive contraceptive care that Planned Parenthood provides. They are fighting to control us. Only our vote will stop them.

Tom McClintock consistently votes against women. McClintock is selling us out, one vote at a time. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
