“[T]ake care that the laws be faithfully executed”

EPA Administrator Scott Pruit

The President of the United States has many powers and a few mandates. Perhaps the most important one – the reason the President controls a vast and varied administration – is the requirement that he “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

The President is required to enforce all laws, including laws that he does not like, or with which he personally disagrees. Anything else would invite chaos and confusion, with government policies and conduct drastically shifting every four, or eight, years to accommodate the whim or will of the newly-elected President. We are in that moment of chaos and confusion now, and nobody is a better example of it than Scott Pruitt. The President ignores Secretary Pruitt’s corruption and the perpetual waste of taxpayer dollars because Pruitt has been effective at disabling the Agency he runs, the EPA. Bit by bit, Pruitt is slashing the rules that were put in place to protect us from reckless businesses by imposing safety standards and making sure those businesses pay for the harm they cause. Pruitt can’t eliminate the EPA, and so he is doing the next best thing – changing the standards, so that they impose no meaningful obligation or restraint on the businesses the EPA is supposed to oversee.

Tom McClintock serves one of the most beautiful regions in the Nation, but he fully supports Pruitt’s destructive policies. This is one of the many reasons we oppose Tom McClintock. California’s Fourth District, and this country, deserve better.
